Prolific folkie Will Oldham has what most would call a distinctive voice. His cracked warble has graced a number of projects over the years, from his Palace days through to his recent collaborations with the Cairo Gang (as Bonnie Prince Billy). The artist is now using his voice in a decidedly less musical yet no less captivating manner: he will be narrating an upcoming audiobook.
As Blurt reports, Oldham will be reading the audiobook version of Rudolph Wurlitzer's fourth novel, Slow Fade. The story is reportedly a "convincing portrait of a man whose career, whose life, has been devoted to the manipulation of images -- on the screen and at the conference table, with actors and technicians, even (and especially) with those closest to him -- and the story of how, in his 71st year, he tries to divest himself of illusions, to make peace with his demons and his past."
Oldham was to narrate the book solo, but apparently he felt another voice was needed for some sections and thus brought in pal D.V. deVincentis, a Hollywood screenwriter, to add extra texture and context to the novel.
