Willis Earl Beal

"Evening's Kiss" (video)

Willis Earl Beal has been gaining attention for his DIY approach to art. Posting his Chicago address and phone number on his website and offering to return letters with a drawing and calls with a song, it's hard not to like this guy.

We previously shared his single "Evening's Kiss," but now we've got some visual accompaniment for the lo-fi tune.

Hand-drawn by Beal, the clip features his animated self wandering around before stopping in at a diner for some coffee. This seems appropriate since according to a press release, the song was inspired by the singer's frequent trips to a diner, wearing a suit in an attempt to catch the eye of a waitress.

After a while he claims, "I felt like 'Jesus Christ, I'm just a fraud. I'm here and I'm deluding myself into thinking that this person, this waitress, is actually interested in me," and penned the downcast tune.

The Chicago artist will release his debut album Acousmatic Sorcery on April 3 via the XL imprint Hot Charity, and he just announced a pair of Canadian tour dates, which you can see below.
