Wordburglar

3rdBurglar

BY Ryan B. PatrickPublished May 28, 2012

Using the comic book parlance that Wordburglar leverages in his lyrics, somewhere in an alternate reality, classic era hip-hop never went pop and continued on its underground track. For those who don't muse on such metaphysics or multiversities, our present continuity sees 'Burg playing in a refined rap sandbox of his making, beholden to creative spirit, not enforced commerciality. Notable for his hip-hop quotables, 3rdBurglar sees 'Burg offering up 14 tracks of opaque metaphors, Transformer namedrops (Elita One!?! on "Sufficiently Suffonsified") and Marvel Comics references that sound like a couple of Official Handbooks were open when he wrote them (see: "Drawings With Words"). Unshakably poised on the mic ("I'm down with sharing/Like Lois and Bram," he riffs to guest star More or Les on "Rhyme O'Clock") and backed by snappy production (Fresh Kils, et al., take a bow), 'Burg's third full-length is as niche-y as it gets. Fans of his effusive brand of hip-hop wouldn't have it any other way.
