Wyclef Jean Slapped with $2 Million Plagiarism Lawsuit

Things just haven't been going so well for Wyclef Jean lately. Earlier this year, the former Fugees member had to back out of his bid to become the president of Haiti, he's been hospitalized due to stress and fatigue issues, and now the singer is facing a lawsuit that alleges he misappropriated some music for his 2007 album Carnival Vol. II: Memoirs of an Immigrant.

TMZ reports that '90s rap group Blahzay Blahzay have filed a suit against Jean asking for $2 million over the unaccredited use of their single "Danger." The song was sampled on Jean's Carnival Vol. II track "Welcome to the East."

While the suit was reportedly issued last year, the members of Blahzay Blahzay apparently backed off when Wyclef's legal people proposed a settlement. The rappers had initially hoped to get a guest spot on Carnival Vol. II, as well as credit for their work, but neither of those things happened. Jean allegedly sent the hip-hoppers a cheque instead, which they claim they "promptly rejected and returned."

Though the amount Jean was willing to part with isn't known, it's probably safe to say that it wasn't close to Blahzay Blahzay's asking price, which is why the outfit have reopened their suit.

Check out both songs below and determine whether the Blahzay boys have a point.
