The last year or so has not been kind to reggae-loving hip-hop star Wyclef Jean. Following a failed presidential bid in Haiti, Jean was hospitalized for fatigue and later slapped with a $2 million plagiarism lawsuit. Apparently, that wasn't rock bottom, however, as Jean has now been the victim of a shooting in Haiti.
According to various reports, Jean's hand was grazed by a bullet Saturday evening (March 19) when he left his vehicle to make a phone call in Port-au-Prince. The Associated Press reports that Jean was in Haiti to support Michel "Sweet Micky" Martelly, a local musician who is currently running for president.
Jean's associate, Jimmy Rosemond, was also in the vehicle on the evening of the shooting. "It is clear that enemies of progressive change in Haiti are behind the shooting of Wyclef -- those that don't want to accept that a monumental change is inevitable for the betterment of the Haitian people," he told the Associated Press. "This incident will not deter those of us that see the election as crucial to the country's future."
Jean was treated at a hospital and later released. He is expected to make a full recovery.
