Baltimore indie rock duo Wye Oak haven't yet fully crafted a follow-up to 2014's Shriek, but the band have collected a number of leftovers for a brand new release. Called Tween, the grouping of orphaned tracks was released digitally today (June 9), with a physical edition arriving August 5 via Merge.
A press release explains that the band's Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack had written and recorded Tween's eight songs between 2011's Civilian and Shriek, but they were "almost abandoned for various reasons." The tunes apparently didn't fit right on Shriek and aren't representative of what the act are working on for album number five, so they're being put in the spotlight now as an "in between" release.
To help promote the set, Wye Oak have delivered an image-refracting music video for Tween's "Watching the Waiting." Of the tune, Wasner explained: "This song is about learning how to understand and accept who I truly am, and present myself more honestly to the world, without any illusions or pretense. The truth is in the mirror, but it is also much, much deeper."
You'll find the visuals below, along with Tween's tracklisting and the band's upcoming North American tour schedule. You can purchase the digital tracks at retailers now, and pre-order the release on CD and vinyl over here.
