Exclaim!, CBC Radio 3 and AUX are excited to announce joining forces to promote an emerging Canadian artist each month. All three organizations will work together to support the X3 Artist of the Month via print, TV, radio and web. The first X3 Artist of the Month for February 2009 is Exclaim!'s February cover star K'naan. The Somali-born, Toronto-based rapper is set to embark on a cross-Canada tour in support of his new album, Troubadour, which will be released on February 24.
The follow-up to his 2005 debut, the Polaris-nominated The Dusty Foot Philosopher, Troubadour was recorded at Bob Marley's original Tuff Gong studio in Kingston, Jamaica. The record blends samples with live instrumentation for a sound that's rooted in traditional African melodies and classic hip-hop tradition.
