Yeah Yeah Yeahs Return with 'Mosquito'

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jan 14, 2013

Reports have indicated that Yeah Yeah Yeahs would be making their return in the spring of 2013 with a new album. Sure enough, the disc is called Mosquito and it's due out April 16 through Interscope.

Like 2009's It's Blitz, the disc was largely produced by TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek (Liars, Santigold, Jane's Addiction) and Nick Launay (Talking Heads, Public Image Ltd, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds). There's also one song produced by LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy featuring rapper Kool Keith (as Dr. Octagon) called "Nitrous Batcave."

Karen O told Pitchfork that the band's goal was to create "uplifting and cheerful" music while going through some tough personal times. She said, "It's extremely lo-fi. We had a shitty drum machine, a shitty sampled keyboard, tons of delay on the vocals. There's a real tone, character, and style to it. And it's probably some of the most tongue-and-cheek stuff that we've done in a while."

Watch a cryptic, disorienting minute-long teaser below. Scroll past that to watch a couple of fan-shot live performances of new songs. The album cover is above.
