There's doom metal and then there's Yob. Creating some of the heaviest sludge this side of the La Brea Tar Pits since 1996, the Eugene, OR trio gave new meaning to the term "cosmic girth." What's frustrating, though, is that less than a year after releasing their most formidable album, 2005's Metal Blade opus The Unreal Never Lived, they went and broke up. Jerks.
While their legacy was carried on by vocalist/guitarist Mike Scheidt and his ensuing band Middian, something felt lacking in the world of churning riffs and resounding drums. All of that will change on July 14 when Yob's fifth and newly recorded full-length, The Great Cessation, will hit store shelves via Profound Lore Records.
Comprised of five songs, The Great Cessation clocks in at just over an hour and was recorded by Sanford Parker (Pelican, Nachtmystium) in the band's hometown.
"We are incredibly happy with how the tracking turned out," says Scheidt. "This album has some of our heaviest riffs, ever. We are very much looking forward to sharing these tunes with our friends worldwide."
Yob will undoubtedly be touring the effort, so check their MySpace page or Profound Lore for more info.
The Great Cessation:
1. "Burning the Altar"
2. "The Lie that is Sin"
3. "Silence of Heaven"
4. "Breathing from the Shallows"
5. "The Great Cessation"
