Bristol-born, Nashville-based "genre-fluid" artist Yola dropped her anthemic album Stand for Myself last week (July 30) via Easy Eye Sound. To celebrate, she's broadcasting Starlight — a concert filmed in front of a live audience at this year's Newport Folk-On event — tonight at 9 p.m. ET.
The album was produced by the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach (Cage the Elephant, Lana Del Rey, CeeLo Green), tracing threads through Yola's eclectic mix of influences. She traverses the territory of rock, '90s neo-soul, Britpop and R&B that constituted her mother's record collection to craft a signature, unpredictable sound that's uniquely her own.
Stand for Myself is a meditation on Yola's faith in a mental paradigm shift beyond the social programming that cultivates bigotry and tokenism, both of which have deeply impacted her career and personal life. It's for this reason especially that the arrival of the album marks such a moment of celebration for the artist — and she wants her fans across the world to revel in it with her.
Named after her powerful new single "Starlight," the concert event is being hosted by the livestream platform Moment House. Known for elevated digital experiences, they're enabling Yola to broadcast her recent Newport Folk Festival performance across multiple timezones from August 4 to 5. The North American version airs tonight at 9 p.m. ET.
Tickets for tonight's concert broadcast — as well as virtual meet-and-greets with Yola — are available here, and you can stream the album on your platform of choice below.
