Zemog El Gallo Bueno

Created from the same cross-cultural upbringing that has inspired the majority of contemporary Latin music happening in North America, Zemog El Gallo Bueno is a genre-shaking, Tropical free jazz record rooted heavily in Puerto Rican rhythms like Bomba, Plena and of course, Salsa. Started by Puerto Rican born, but American raised, Abraham Gomez-Delgado, Zemog El Gallo Bueno (Gomez spelt backwards, followed by "the good roster") is a culture crash between Latin and North America in a frenzy of percussive rhythms, jazzy horns, funky bass lines and hypnotic chants. But it doesn't stop there. Amongst all the vintage-tinged Latin funk sits some Van Halen-inspired riffs and Sun-Ra-flavoured avant-garde jazz freak-outs. Nueva York Sessions is as much a record for the dancers as it is for the players. Musically pushing the boundaries of Latin music, Zemog joins the fraternity of forward-thinking Alter-Latino players that includes Ocote Soul Sounds, Grupo Fantasma and Señor Coconut.
