Azealia Banks Apologizes for Rant Against Zayn

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 15, 2016

Outspoken rapper Azealia Banks has been in particularly inflammatory form this week, as she got banned from Twitter following homophobic and racist tweets directed at Zayn. She then offered a half-hearted non-apology before claiming that Twitter banned her only because she wrote that "WHITENESS IS A MENTAL ILLNESS." Now, Banks has released a proper apology statement.

She posted the mea culpa on Instagram. She offered her "deepest apologies" and admitted that "employing racial/sexual slurs/stereotypes in attempts to make fun of or degrade another person or group is absolutely unacceptable." Read the statement below.

This certainly seems a lot more sincere than Banks' previous statements on the matter. Following her initial rant against Zayn, she wrote, "Big apologies to anyone who was offended by any of the things I said. Not sorry I said it. But sorry for the way I made people feel." She then continued, "Remember that offense is never given, it is only taken. I apologize to everyone who TOOK offense."

Zayn hasn't responded to this latest statement from Banks.

This whole controversy stems from Zayn's video for "Like I Would," which Banks claimed was a rip-off of her own clip for "Chasing Time." Watch the videos below.
