The Isolationist

BY Melissa WheelerPublished Mar 1, 2004

If ever there was an award for most aptly-named album, this record would take the cake and the after party too. Of course, it would have to be the kind of after party where the protagonist finds himself pensively plodding along the pavement post-ceremony, lost in his own thoughts, perhaps passing a vacant and night-lit football field, much like something you’d expect from Sofia Coppola. With solitary guitars over slow tempos made of intangible and regular computer stuffs with ambient background noises, this album sounds vulnerable. The sparse "Nervosa” is like the puffy-eyed first calm breath after a soul-quaking cry, where "Lines of Division” is more up tempo yet suspicious. Watch it, this one’s emotional.
