Granted, it's only been a year-and-a-half since metal/hardcore icons Converge dropped their Aggressive Tendencies year-end-topping album, Axe to Fall, but it feels like an eternity since its release. Thankfully, the progressive outfit are about to let loose another number to brutalize our ear canals.
Singer Jacob Bannon's Deathwish Inc. label explains that the band are ready to deliver a split seven-inch with another long-running act: Providence, RI ragers Dropdead. One track from each band will be featured on the platter, which comes out June 21.
Converge tune "Runaway" is said to be an instant classic, "unrelenting in its speed and emotional ferocity from beginning to end," while Dropdead's number, "Paths of Glory," is an "unforgettable political punk/hardcore anthem" that's sure to blitzkrieg along on busy beats and gnarled-out vocals.
While both bands are self-releasing the effort, the single will be distributed by Deathwish Inc. and the Armageddon Label. If you don't have a turntable, you will be glad to know that there will also be a digital package available.
In other news, Converge also unveiled some info on an Axe to Fall follow-up. "We spent a good portion of the winter writing and recording demos for a new album," the band wrote in a statement. "The album will be released by Epitaph/Deathwish sometime down the road (that means no date is ready to announce yet)."
That's not much to go by, but at least it shows some promise of more metal-laced licks coming our way soon. To add to the goodness, the band also have a DVD in the works.
