Cradle of Filth

Lovecraft & Witch Hearts

BY Laura TaylorPublished Aug 1, 2002

This two-CD set sums up the Cradle of Filth's career with Music for Nations, with one disc compiling some of the band's most popular songs and the other gathering together a number of oddities - bonus tracks, remixes and the like. The collection goes no earlier than Dusk And Her Embrace, but it still does a good job capturing the overall spirit of chaos, spookiness and theatrics that is Cradle of Filth. The booklet includes a comprehensive and flattering biography of the band for the uninitiated and the fanatics but provides no details of where each song originally appeared. After last year's album of mostly re-recorded tracks and a live DVD/VHS release, another offering of already available material seems a little redundant, but perhaps the band is just getting prepped for their Epic Records debut. While Lovecraft & Witch Hearts may be a little heavy on the hype, it's still a pretty good collection of rarities and fan favourites.
