The Dodos Return with 'Carrier,' Share New Single

Having recently inked a new deal with Polyvinyl Records, folksy rock duo the Dodos have officially announced the impending release of their new album. Carrier is due out on August 27, with the Canadian release being handled by Dine Alone Records.

The album was recorded in the band's hometown of San Francisco at John Vanderslice's Tiny Telephone studio with engineers/co-producers Jay and Ian Pellicci. The Magik*Magik Orchestra (who have recorded with Vanderslice) appear on several tracks.

The songs were composed with Dodos singer/guitarist Meric Long writing the words first before picking up his electric guitar. His playing was reportedly influenced by late Women guitarist Christopher Reimer, who was a touring member of the band before tragically passing away in 2012.

"Chris was a huge influence on the way I think about guitar, songwriting, and music in general," Long said in a statement. "Seeing how he could transform and shape sound with an electric guitar inspired me to explore more tones and use those tones to begin writing a song."

The climactically building cut "Confidence" is streaming below. That's the album cover above and the the tracklist below. Carrier is available to pre-order on CD, blue vinyl, cassette or digital download.

This is the Dodos' fifth album overall, and it follows 2011's No Color. The band have reportedly already started working on a follow-up, with final cut "The Ocean" reportedly functioning more as an ellipsis than a full stop.

2. Substance
3. Confidence
4. Stranger
5. Relief
6. Holidays
7. Family
8. The Current
9. Destroyer
