Over the last couple of years, electronic icons Kraftwerk have performed 3D shows at venues around the world, and the latest leg of this uniquely immersive tour will be hitting North America in September and October. Now, the veteran German group have revealed that they will be capturing their 3D concept with a Blu-ray.

Band founder Ralf Hütter talked about the release in an interview with Rolling Stone, indicating the film should be finished soon and available before the end of the year. He said:

We translated our performances to 3D, and in surround sound, kind of like 3D sound. We've been doing this and working on a Blu-ray to make this available. It should be coming out in the late fall. We've put a lot of work into all the images, transforming from our Kling Klang archives into 3D format and arranging it synchronized with the music, so it's quite a lot of production. We're quite a small team of musicians, technicians, computer programmers here at Kling Klang Studios; we do everything ourselves. That's what we've been working in, and still are. When we travel to America, we'll hopefully be finished with this work.

In addition to this 3D film, Hütter confirmed that Kraftwerk are also plotting a new album, which is being made without any input from departed founding member Florian Schneider.

"We are always working on new tracks and patterns and sound compositions, and once we are finished with our work on the 3D catalogue, those eight albums, then we will concentrate on number nine," he said.

Of course, it's best to take this promise of new music with a grain of salt, given that Kraftwerk have been talking about an album for a number of years. In 2009, Hütter said that an LP would arrive in 2010, and he suggested in 2012 that it would be released "soon."

As far as what Florian has been up to, Hütter said, "He's concentrating on research on speech synthesis and things like that. He's not been involved with the music for a very long time."
