Late grunge great Kurt Cobain is being remembered with the solo compilation (and documentary soundtrack) Montage of Heck: The Home Recordings. With the album set to drop on November 13 through Universal Music Canada/UMe, his demo of the Nirvana track "Been a Son" has emerged.
This is a quiet DIY sketch of the song that would later turn into the full-blown version of "Been a Son" we all know and love. This take, however, is clearly unfinished, since Cobain mumbles the words (not even the titular chorus hook had been written yet), and the whole thing clocks in at a mere 81 seconds. From the sound of things, he's playing an unplugged electric guitar, and perhaps the most interesting part comes right at the end, when he separately demos the bass part.
