Mastodon have announced they are splitting with founding guitarist-vocalist Brent Hinds after nearly three decades.
"Friends and fans, after 25 monumental years together, Mastodon and Brent Hinds have mutually decided to part ways," the band shared in a statement published today.
"We're deeply proud of and beyond grateful for the music and history we've shared and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors. We are still very inspired and excited to show up for fans in this next chapter of Mastodon."
Mastodon add that despite Hinds's exit, "all 2025 touring plans will remain intact." The band are set to play Quebec City's Festival d'été de Quebec 2025 and will open Black Sabbath's final performance this July.
Hinds contributed lead guitar, clean and harsh vocals, and additional strings like lap-steel and banjo to all eight of Mastodon's studio albums. The group's most recent full-length is 2021's Hushed and Grim.
Outside of Mastodon, Hinds has also recorded as a member of supergroups Giraffe Tongue Orchestra and Legend of the Seagullmen, as well as Fiend Without a Face and West End Motel.
He has also contributed to material by Killswitch Engage, the Dillinger Escape Plan, Black Lips, Mouth of the Architect and Pike vs The Automaton.
