It's been three years since Newcastle post-punks Maximo Park delivered Quicken the Heart, but the English outfit have just announced their return with an upcoming full-length called The National Health.
Maximo Park tweeted last month that they've split from longtime label Warp, and it looks as if the album will drop courtesy of the band themselves on June 11 in the UK. Pre-orders for the 13-song set, which was tracked in various UK studios by Gil Norton (Pixies, Foo Fighters), are being taken here.
According to singer Paul Smith, The National Health serves as a cure-all for pre-fab pop, with the vocalist adding that this record found the act looking to make some positive changes in their lives.
"We're in a global recession and everyone is being bombarded with bouncy, happy music," he said in a statement. "The nation is out of control and the record is about taking back control, and being a force for change in your own life. It can't speak for everybody but it has its eyes and ears all around us... that's always been a Maximo Park thing: look at yourself. See how you relate to yourself and hopefully someone else will have something in common with it. Our songs are built on empathy. I would hope it's as vital a music as people would want to hear."
