Moneen

It All Started With A Red Stripe

BY Dave SynyardPublished May 24, 2008

Brampton, ON’s Moneen have been fighting the good fight for nine years running with their distinctive brand of melodic emo rock and have put forth a DVD that portrays their transition from a DIY outfit to a label-supported band. With six releases under their belts (three full-lengths and three EPs), the The Start To This May Be The End To Another film explains Moneen’s beginnings and then follows them as they embark to record The Red Tree with producer Brian McTernan. The film accurately focuses on the genuine excitement and anxiety Moneen experience when they discover that Vagrant Records has taken an interest in them, and the ups and downs of recording The Red Tree. The film offers frustrating and sympathetic moments with Moneen during the recording of The Red Tree as they realise how hard it is to transition from a band that have always played music for themselves to one that must work as a cohesive group to successfully finish what they’ve started. It All Started With A Red Stripe is a true testament to Moneen’s infectious, melody-filled music and determination. Extras include a live concert at Toronto’s Mod Club, music videos and tour diaries from Canada and the U.S.
