Pacific Northwest indie rock disciples rejoice. Your fearless leaders, Built to Spill, have announced that they'll be returning with a new studio album, their seventh, which will be titled There Is No Enemy and due out via Warner this October.
In a recent interview with Pitchfork, front-man Doug Martsch opened up about the record, explaining the gap between this one and 2006's You In Reverse. "Yeah, we're not in any hurry to put anything out. There are plenty of Built to Spill records - no one is in a hurry to hear something new," he said.
He continues with the You In Reverse comparisons, saying, "On the last record, a lot of the material was built on jamming. But, for this one, I wrote most of the songs and brought them to the band. Still, we're trying to make it sound like a continuation of what the last record was, as far as sounding like a live band with little sounds coming in and out. Most of the songs are five or six minutes long - maybe a couple of seven, eight minute-ers. And a couple two, three minute ones... There might be some things that were influenced by soul music, but it all just sounds like Built to Spill guitar music."
