Sea Shanty TikTok Takes on Nickelback's "Rockstar"

BY Allie GregoryPublished Jan 25, 2021

Since TikTok's sea shanty community, which is affectionately known on the app as #shantytok, started gaining viral popularity early this year, one of the genre's rising stars Nathan Evans got his own record deal with Polydor thanks to his version of "The Wellerman." Now, more musicians are cashing in on the trend, namely Nickelback, who have taken part in a shanty cover of their song "Rockstar."

The #shantytok mix of the 2005 track came about after a UK group called the Lottery Winners offered up their take on the track through their own channels last week (January 18). Since then, Nickelback have joined the band in a seafaring version for their one and only post on their new TikTok profile.

Last year, Nickelback celebrated the 15th anniversary of All the Right Reasons (the album "Rockstar" appears on) with a special edition reissue.

See their entry into the #shantytok sphere below, where you can also find the Lottery Winners' original cover.
