Rootsy singer-guitarist Kim Churchill hails from Australia, but his new album Silence Win has lots of Canadian connections. It's due out on April 1 through Fontana North, and it's available to stream in full ahead of time on Exclaim.ca.
The album was produced by Warne Livesey (Matthew Good, 54-40), with sessions taking place last summer in Ucluelet on Vancouver Island. While this is his third studio collection, it's the first time he's enlisted an outside producer.
"Paradoxically, by relinquishing control to someone else I think this record has a clarity and has really captured who I am in a way I was unable to achieve on my own," the songwriter said in a statement.
The album begins with the electrified rocker "Single Spark," although this turns out to be something of a fake-out, since most of the album consists of folksy, acoustic-driven material. Some of the tunes are mellow, while other swell to dramatic crescendos. Scroll past Churchill's upcoming Canadian schedule to listen.
Tour dates:
04/05 Toronto, ON - The Great Hall
04/06 Winnipeg, MB - West End Cultural Centre
04/11 Edmonton, AB - Royal Alberta Museum Theatre
04/12 Calgary, AB - The Ironwood
04/13 Calgary, AB - Festival Hall
04/15 Victoria, BC - Lucky Bar
04/16 Vancouver, BC - Biltmore
