YOU can be the new guitarist for the Smashing Pumpkins. Yes, you! The legendary alt-rock band behind "1979" and "Today" took to social media today in search of an additional guitarist following the October departure of long-serving member Jeff Schroeder.
To their audience of over 1.3 million combined followers across platforms, current members Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin and James Iha wrote: "The Smashing Pumpkins are in search of an additional guitarist. The application process is open to anyone who might be interested." They then directed interested applicants to send their resumes to the email address SPGuitar@redlightmanagement.com.
Hiring strangers is common practice for the group, who found Schroeder through a friend when he was completing his doctorate at UCLA in 2007. Check out his best work with the group in Exclaim!'s ranking of their top 20 post-reunion songs.
Presumably with a new guitarist in tow, the Pumpkins will embark on a tour of North America in support of Green Day this July.
