Following an Oscar win and two albums with gentle indie-folk outfit the Swell Season, singer Marketa Irglova is going solo. The chanteuse, most well-known for her performance in the romantic drama Once, which yielded the mega-hit "Falling Slowly," has just announced her solo full-length debut, Anar.
According to a press release, the album finds Irglova spicing up her repertoire, citing influences as disparate as Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Otis Redding and the soundtrack to Jesus Christ Superstar. Irglova wrote the album following a move to New York City, spending much of her time surrounded by artists and musicians at an art and performance room called Zora Space. What resulted were tunes like the R&B-influenced "Go Back," which you can stream now on NPR, and the reportedly heartfelt "Crossroads."
The disc itself was recorded in Chicago at Soma Studios with producer and engineer Tim Iseler, with help in the studio from Persian drum player and vocalist, Aida Shahghasemi.
Following her film debut, her time with the Swell Season, not to mention an appearance on the Simpsons and as a touring member of Iron & Wine, 23-year-old Irglova's solo venture adds one more credit to her already impressive resume.
A tracklisting has yet to be revealed, but the singer has announced she'll be touring in support of the record this fall.
