Cincinnati, OH-formed quartet the Ophelias have announced a new album — the first Julien Baker has ever produced for another artist — alongside a spring North American tour set to include a pair of Canadian shows in Toronto and Montreal.
Spring Grove arrives April 4 through Get Better Records as the follow-up to the group's 2021 LP Crocus. Baker, who sings harmonies and plays on a number of the songs, spent 10 days tracking the record at Memphis, TN's Young Avenue Sound with the Ophelias and engineer Calvin Lauber back in 2021.
The tracks were written during a time when people from vocalist/guitarist Spencer Peppet's past kept popping back up in her life. "There's so much more beyond heartbreak to write about," she said in a press release, emphasizing that there are "zero songs about break-ups" on the album.
Get your first taste of Spring Grove with the spectral, brooding lead single "Cumulonimbus," which is accompanied by a Paige Hochstatter-directed music video.
The Ophelias will kick off their North American tour dates on the album's release date in Philadelphia, PA, venturing to Canada the following month for gigs at the Baby G in Toronto on May 11 and Montreal's Casa Del Popolo on May 13.
