We weren't the only ones pronouncing Chad Kroeger's last name as crow-ger, right? Turns out it's actually pronounced crew-ger, and in true Canadian fashion, he has been too polite to correct us all.
Obvious Freddy Krueger jokes aside, the Nickelback bandleader shared in a recent interview with Loudwire that even when he has wanted to correct people, he rarely gets the chance, as interviewers usually dive into questions before he's able to get a word in about his name.
"It's so far in by the time I get to say something, I don't actually ... Because if I just stop and go, 'Actually, it's Kroeger,' I'm gonna look like such a dick. So I'm just like whatever, I don't care," he explained.
He also said that the people around him seem to care more about his name being pronounced wrong than he does, even recalling the time the mixup occurred while he was being interviewed alongside Alice in Chains founder Jerry Cantrell.
The musician remembered, "I sort of looked over at Jerry, and he goes, 'It's your name, dude. That is your last name. Tell that dude across there how to say it properly so that he stops saying it wrong into that microphone and misinforming people. That is your last name, brother.' And I was like, 'Wow you really care about this shit!"
If the word spreads, the press run for Nickelback's upcoming album Get Rollin' could have the highest crew-ger to crow-ger ratio out of all of their release rollouts yet.
Beyond the name debacle and the reminiscing, Kroeger called himself "such a melody whore" (aren't we all?), and shared that he's "done a lot of mushrooms in [his] life."
